Light Forest Vibes - Project mapping

During the opening weekend of Lichtbos Vibes, Landgoed De Wielewaal was opened to the public for the first time in its history. Commissioned by the Municipality of Eindhoven, Thinc Ahead developed the concept, the story, the voice-over, and the necessary footage. Animation Agency the project mapping in close collaboration with them.

The challenge was to make a comprehensive historical narrative comprehensible in a single continuous experience on location. Visitors walked to the country house via an audio tour, where a six-minute projection formed the central moment of the evening.

Light Forest Vibes - Project mapping

The history of the Wielenwaal

The script took visitors on a journey from Anton Philips' purchase of the first plots of land in 1914, through the construction of the estate and gardens by Dirk Tersteeg, to the building of the country house by Frits Philips in the 1930s.

Old photos, archive images, and contour drawings told the story of how heathland was transformed into a production forest, how the Sterrenbos and Pinetum came into being, and how De Wielewaal grew into a private estate. The recent purchase by the municipality of Eindhoven and the future use as a publicly accessible urban forest and catering location were also highlighted.

Why project mapping?

Because the country house itself was central to the story, we opted for project mapping. The animation was tailored precisely to the façade, making windows, doors, and contours part of the narrative. The building was visually constructed, opened up, and temporarily made transparent to reveal the future. In this way, the location became not just a backdrop, but the means of communication itself.

"We worked with Animation Agency to put on a very cool production. It was nice to switch gears and a smooth process. Definitely worth repeating!"
