Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a 3D animation and a technical animation?
A 3D animation generally tells a brand or product story with a focus on emotion and experience. A technical animation, on the other hand, emphasizes functionality, components, and processes with maximum precision. Think of exploded views, flows, and safety or maintenance procedures. In practice, we combine both: first the why and benefits, then the how with technical details.
What input does a 3D visualization agency need?
Ideally, CAD/STEP files or technical drawings, supplemented with product photos, materials, brand assets, and any process flows. Without CAD, we can work based on references and measurements, but that takes extra time. For animations, storyboards and key messages help to efficiently determine shots and sequence.
How long does it take to create a 3D visualization?
For a few photorealistic stills, you should often allow 1-2 weeks. A 60-90 second 3D animation with multiple scenes and sound design usually takes 4-8 weeks, depending on complexity, availability of input, and number of revisions. Tighter deadlines are possible with a clear scope and quick feedback.
What drives the costs most in 3D visualizations?
The complexity of the subject matter, number of scenes, level of detail, simulations, render resolution, multilingualism, voice-over and music licenses, and the number of revision rounds. A tight deadline can also have an impact. Always ask for a clear overview of deliverables, rights, and additional work agreements.
Will I receive source files?
That varies per project and agreement. Render files and final videos are standard. Source files or 3D assets are often licensed separately due to IP, tooling, and maintenance. Please indicate your requirements in advance so that the proposal and licenses can be tailored accordingly.
Is 3D an alternative to product photography?
Yes, especially in the pre-sales phase or when there are many variants. With 3D, you can create consistent images from every angle, color, or finish, without any logistical hassle. You can also show difficult cross-sections or internal components that are not visible in photographs.
